Pune: The Pune Book Festival 2024, organized by the National Book Trust at Fergusson College Grounds, ended on Sunday, December 22, with great success. Over nine days, more than 25 lakh books were sold, earning Rs. 40 crore, which is four times more than last year.
This year’s festival had over 600 stalls, much more than the 250 stalls last year, which made Rs. 11 crore. The event also had many fun activities. Some of the activities are a children’s film festival, competitions, workshops, and more than 25 cultural programs. Many famous people from different fields attended, and the public enjoyed it a lot.

Rajesh Pandey, the festival organizer, said, “Around 10 lakh people visited the festival, and over 1,000 authors joined. We set four world records related to books. More than 100 books were launched during the festival, and the first ‘Pune Lit Fest’ brought many well-known people. This year, book sales reached Rs. 40 crore, showing how much the festival has grown.”
Pandey also talked about how young people are reading more than people think. He said, “It’s a myth that young people don’t read. They were very active in the festival, especially in buying books. The event has become a big attraction for people all over Maharashtra.”
He also shared his plans for the future, saying, “The Pune Book Festival is not just an event anymore; it’s becoming a movement. With support from Savitribai Phule Pune University, the ‘Author-Reader Dialogue’ program will grow even more.”
