D Gukesh : New World Chess Champion, he become 18th World Chess Champion
D Gukesh is the New World Chess Champion. History Made today in World Chess Championship 2024 as Gukesh Becomes the Youngest World Champion After Ding Liren’s blunder. Gukesh Dommaraju become 18th World Chess Champion and he is a youngest(18 years old only) World Chess Champion.
History Made as Gukesh Becomes the Youngest World Chess Champion After Ding Liren’s blunder :
The game was going towards a draw, however on 55th move Ding Liren decided to offer a rook trade by putting his rook on f2 which turns out to be a 2024 World Chess Championship-deciding blunder. Gukesh quickly takes it with his own rook. Ding’s blunder turns out too costly for him in the end, as he had only 10 minutes left on the clock compared to hour(1 hr :07 mins) for Gukesh. Ding resigns after his 58th move with the Gukesh retaining a pawn advantage over him.
The moment Gukesh realized Ding blunder, his eyes filled with tears. The Indian GM who had maintained a poker face though out the World Championships , but when the title finally went to him, he couldn’t control his emotions.

- Grzegorz Gajewski – Grzegorz Gajewski is head coach of D Gukesh’s (Gukesh Dommaraju) Team. Grzegorz Gajewski (born 19 July 1985) is a Polish chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2006. Interestingly Gajewski had also worked as Viswanathan Anand’s second when Vishy Anand was playing World Chess Championship.
- Paddy Upton – Paddy Upton is mental health coach for D Gukesh. He is a South African born cricket coach specializing as head coach in professional Twenty20 cri, mental coach to professional athletes, sports scientist executive. Interesting coincidence about Paddy Upton is that, he was the mental coach of Indian cricket team when India won the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
- Penatala Harikrishna – Pentala Harikrishna (born 10 May 1986) is an Indian chess grandmaster. One of the most successful Indian chess players, he achieved a peak world ranking of 10 in November 2016, and a peak ELO rating of 2770 in December 2016.
- Jan-Krzysztof Duda – Duda is the polish chess grandmaster.
- Radosław Wojtaszek – (born 13 January 1987) is a Polish chess grandmaster. He is a six-time Polish champion.
- Vincent Keymer – is a German chess grandmaster. He was the No.1 in the FIDE World Chess Ratings for Juniors in January 2024
- Jan Klimkowski – Jan is a polish chess player.
Last but not the least, none other than 5 time World Chess Champion “Viswanathan Anand”, however Gukesh said that Vishy sir is not his second but he is always there for any help.
Who is D Gukesh?
D Gukesh’s full name is Dommaraju Gukesh, and he is from Chennai. He was born on May 7, 2006, in Chennai. He started playing chess at the age of 7. Initially, he was trained by Bhaskar Nagayya. Nagayya is an international chess player and a home chess tutor in Chennai. After that, Vishwanathan Anand not only taught Gukesh about the game but also trained him. By profession Gukesh’s father is a doctor, and his mother is a microbiologist.

Magnus Carlsen also appreciated D Gukesh after the game 13 draw. Magnus Carlsen said that ‘Gukesh did his job well for a long time, but Ding survived with a combo of skill and luck’.
